Third Work Session: Body Finishing and Our Learning Experience🔧💫 (8/1/2026)

On 8th January, my teammates and I had the opportunity to be guided by Encik Shahar, a skilled technician in our school, to apply some aircraft body finishing skills on our Microlight Canard. These steps were playing their significant roles in our body preparing stage before we move into the painting process.m.canard

 Our main task was to clean and restore the aircraft body. This involved several processes, including sanding, grinding, and repairing damaged surfaces. One of the key techniques we applied was using filler material—commonly used in car body repair—to fix uneven areas and imperfections on the surface. It required patience and precision to ensure the body became smooth and ready for the next stage.

Throughout this process, we were guided by Encik Shahar. He taught us the correct techniques and shared valuable practical knowledge, which helped us understand the importance of proper surface preparation in aircraft maintenance.

Although we have made significant progress, the body preparation is not yet complete. There are still areas that need further work and refinement. We will continue and complete the remaining tasks after the semester break.

Overall, this experience was very meaningful for all of us. It not only improved our technical skills but also gave us a deeper appreciation for the effort required in maintaining aircraft structures.

Second Work Session - Vacuum and Remove Front Wing (11/11/2025)

     On 11 November, we returned to the hangar for our second work session with the Microlight Canard. After leaving the aircraft idle for several days, we noticed a thin layer of dust had settled on its surface. Before beginning any technical work, we took a duster and carefully wiped down the entire plane to ensure it was clean and ready for inspection. This simple step helped us maintain the aircraft’s condition and prepared us for the tasks planned for the day.        After we finished wiping off the dust from the exterior, we approached En. Zihad to request a vacuum cleaner. The interior of the plane had accumulated quite a bit of dirt and debris, and wiping alone wouldn’t be enough to clean it properly. First Work Session - Cleaning (4/11/2025)

     We met with En. Zihad at the hangar to discuss the plan for the day. We requested a waterjet from the aerospace school’s storage, and since the hangar was out of car wash soap and sponges, En. Zihad assigned us to purchase the necessary cleaning supplies along with a few additional items from the nearby DIY store. After that, we finally started our cleaning after struggling to put together the water supply hose for the waterjet.      We cleaned the aircraft’s interior and exterior with a waterjet, sponges, and car soaps, removing all dirt and grime because the aircraft had been left abandoned for many years, resulting in extensive rust buildup and multiple insect nests forming within the interior. Finally, at the end of the session, we positioned the aircraft onto its tail to allow the remaining water to drain out from the rear.
